Bishops, Priests, and Deacons
The Catholic Church has a hierarchical structure, with the pope as the supreme authority. Below the pope are bishops, priests, and deacons. Bishops are responsible for overseeing dioceses, which are geographic areas that contain multiple parishes.
Bishops
Bishops are ordained by the pope and have the authority to ordain priests and deacons. They are also responsible for confirming new members of the Church and administering the sacrament of Holy Orders.
Priests
Priests are ordained by bishops and have the authority to celebrate Mass, hear confessions, and anoint the sick. They are also responsible for teaching the faith and providing pastoral care to their communities.
Deacons
Deacons are ordained by bishops and have the authority to assist priests in the celebration of Mass and other sacraments. They can also preach, teach, and baptize.
